Protected bike lanes make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to safely and confidently ride a bicycle.
Baltimore’s Downtown Bicycle Network consists of a two-way protected bicycle lane on Maryland Avenue and Cathedral Street, connecting neighborhoods in north and central Baltimore to downtown, and a two-way separated bicycle lane on Centre and Monument Streets, connecting neighborhoods in east and west Baltimore to downtown. It also includes standard bicycle lanes on Madison Street, Preston Street, and Biddle Street.
Bikemore's advocacy — and the efforts by the residents we've organized around this project — have played a key role in making this a reality. The Maryland Ave Cycle track was stalled for years and our advocacy helped push it forward. Standard bike lanes were originally planned for Monument and Madison Streets, but we pushed for a high quality facility instead to match the connection made on Maryland Avenue.
After installation, Central Baltimore will look a lot more like neighboring cities that make it easy for people to bike to and from work, entertainment, and their homes.
