If the Baltimore Region is going to have the comprehensive, reliable public transportation system it needs in the 21st century, then it is essential that we reform the way public transportation is governed and financed. The current system operated by Maryland Department of Transportation/MTA is accountable only to the Governor and does not meet the public transportation needs of Central Maryland residents, businesses and other stakeholders. Two studies have laid out options for reform, but we need leaders of state and local government to work together to propose the best option for Maryland.
HB1336 creates the governance and funding commission that will do this.
