Where can I ride safely in the city? What kind of bike do I need? What do I need to bring with me?

Bikemore is hosting an intro to biking class designed for folks who are just getting started riding in the city, or are looking to brush up their skills or get more comfortable! This class is focused on the skills you need to safely ride in the city, for commuting or recreational rides.

This class is meant for people who already know how to ride a bike, but might not feel comfortable riding on the road. This class is for adults.

The Bicycling 101 series consists of two parts: an in classroom lesson and a separate on the road guided bike ride to practice skills. We highly encourage you to attend both classes! You are required to attend an “In the Classroom” class before attending an “On the Road” class.

In the Classroom:

Part one will take place inside, and will be a discussion based, classroom setting. We’ll go over types of bikes, parts of your bike, planning your route, what to bring on a ride, and riding in bike lanes, roads and trails safely.

You’re not required to bring anything with you. But feel free to bring pen and paper for note taking, and your bike for more detailed instruction.

On the Road:

Part two will be an on the bike class. We’ll ride less than three miles around the neighborhood to practice the skills learned in part one. You’ll learn how to connect to bike lanes, find safe streets to ride on, signal, and make turns at big intersections. And you’ll practice using tools and accessories, like how to lock up your bike.

You need to bring your own bike. We also recommend bringing a helmet, water bottle, and lock.

In the event of bad weather, we’ll contact you by email by 5pm the day before the ride if it’s cancelled.
