Update: Bikemore is no longer coordinating volunteer shifts, but our partner organizations are still in need of volunteers to support their food distribution. If you’re interested in volunteering, please email clarissa@bikemore.net to connect you.

Transportation is one of the key barriers to accessing healthy food, and in particular, COVID-19 has limited mobility for many families, depending on factors like their own health, access to personal vehicles, and comfort with using public transportation.

Since April 2020, over 50 volunteers have delivered 800+ meals and grocery bags to individuals and families in Baltimore.

who is receiving the food?

It depends on the program! For most of our partners, the majority of clients are lower-income folks and older adults with limited access to healthy foods.

How did this program start? Is it in response to COVID-19?

In April 2020, Dana Stein, CEO of Civic Works, approached Bikemore and asked if we could support their food distribution to older Baltimoreans by making deliveries on bike. We thought 5-10 people would volunteer. The first week, 20 volunteers showed up. Throughout 2020, we worked with Real Food Farm @ Civic Works, United Workers, The Franciscan Center, and Bmore Community Food to make deliveries to people needing free and discounted price fresh produce and groceries.
